Howdy,

Looking to acquire my first fixie after riding gears for some time. I’ve started out looking local via apps like Craigs and Nextdoor but didn’t find much in terms of fixie.

They do seem to have lots of parts available if I were inclined to build my own, but I have never done this and would prefer to start out with a complete build until I am comfortable.

Should I look to purchase my first fixie online or at a local shop? This would be used primarily for commuting and small store runs to local shops.

Looking forward to your inputs

If you have any interest in building your own bike, then a fixie would be a great first project. You should really consider asking a local bike shop about classes, or if any of their mechanics would be willing to teach you. You might find a passionate mechanic who would enjoy staying after hours and helping with a project.

If you do decide to buy a complete bike then I generally suggest going through a local shop. Local bike shops tend to cultivate local bike culture.
