All the people saying just change instances, I would and will but this being the biggest instance and calling itself the front-page of Lemmy. This sets a precedent for banning things capitalism doesn't support with out even talking to your user base. And I disapprove.
No, this sets a precedent for banning things that could get you sued, because even if you're in the right, legal fees will tear you a new asshole. If that is a grievous affront to your ideals, you are more than welcome to create an instance for piracy that you take full liability for.
Frankly, there's a whole lot of people here who are screeching that the admins should take on the personal risk, but are too cowardly to do it themselves. I'm not saying you're one of them, and if you legitimately would take the full liability for hosting a piracy thing, you have my genuine respect. I just don't think the vast majority here fall into that category.
Well I can still view all the content on this instance from another instance, and get the communities that are not banned on this instance from the other instances so... It works. Until we get a circlejerk of varying instances blocking other instances communities. That's when things will get ugly.
Are you going to pony up the cash when the lawyers come down on lemmy.world? Keep in mind that Reddit spent more than the operational budget of all of lemmy.world to keep its piracy-happy users protected.
Lemmy.world is too big for this type of behavior to be ignored.
