I like the feathered kinda look from the 80's personally, which goes with my somewhat wavey hair (at least when it's long; short it's actually kinda curly) since it naturally feathers out without much effort.
Really don't do much. I just don't cut it (it's been over a decade since I even went to a barber). Keep it clean, conditioned and I can just brush and comb out any tangles and help the feathering out and look like I belong in A Flock of Seagulls.
I tried to look up what you're describing, but couldn't get any kind of consistent result. Have you got some kind of picture or famous person with the style you're talking about? Thanks.
