They're not. Next question.
I just read her wiki page and she sure does find herself in a lot of controversies
She's the worst. My brother got taken in by her podcast. After I sent him some critical coverage of her work, he was able to see the grift. Bari is insidious.
Reading it was quite the ride. She seems like quite the conflicted individual.
I think the conflict is performative. The conflict you get from her content is basic-removed apologia for views that need some sugar to swallow.
Yeah, she seems to insert herself into situations she shouldn't for attention. I say seems because I did not dig into her work beyond Wikipedia
I'm not a fan of hers, but I do think she has a point here.
There was a significantly different response by progressives to the girls kidnapped by Boko Haram and the hostages taken by Hamas. When posters were put up of the kidnapped Israelis they were ripped down by the same kinds of people who tweeted #BringBackOurGirls.
I know there will be many downvotes to this comment, but I consider myself a progressive and am worried that progressives are losing sight of their values in favour of what is the prevailing groupthink online
I'll admit I didn't watch it because I hate the charged clickbait title (and I'm not gonna watch a video about rape on my phone at work) but it sure feels like she's homogenizing feminism by attributing the silence of some to all feminists. It's like titling a video "Why are Jews silent on the Palestinian genocide?" when it only applies to some.
Downvoted are for comments that don't add to the discussion (which you are) so I hope you don't get dogpiled
There are many progressives who are calling for the release of the hostages and calling the October 7th attack a war crime, but the problem is that it is a perfectly acceptable in progressive circles to pretend that the attack wasn't that bad, or that it was terrible but was necessary for the liberation of Palestine
As I said, I consider myself a progressive, and I know that a lot of progressives think like me. But there is a strand of the left that is very vocal online that I fear has lost its way
Whoa whoa first off I DO think your comment added to the discussion! I was saying I wouldn't downvoted you and hoped others agreed
I agree that there are progressives with twisted opinions about the conflict. If that's what she was saying, maybe she shouldn't paint with such a broad stroke. A non-inflammatory title would have been "Why are some feminists silent about rape and murder in the middle easy?" But that wouldn't get the clicks. It significantly diminishes her whole point in my opinion
Oh I'm so sorry! I misread your comment! I'm going to edit mine so it doesn't confuse others
Yeah I agree about the title, but that's just the internet now :(
So what about a title like “Why are men buying motorcycles?”
It doesn’t mean that all men are buying motorcycles, just that enough are to make it a noticeable trend.
You don’t need the word “some”. That’s the defaul. “All” is the special case that needs to be explicitly indicated.
I'd dislike that headline, too, but it's not as awful as this one because it's not painting men in a bad light
People don't like it. Then you ask questions.
