I heard a native American origin story that we lived on the second world, but the demons followed us, and so we had to flee to the third world.

Mine is that we came from Venus - it's closer in size to Earth, roughly in the Goldilocks zone, and it rains liquid metal is extremely corrosive. There's no sign of what used to be there
