Uh, I have definitively heard a lot of men say their primary motivation to "getting buff" is to pick up women.

and I have definitely heard women repeat some common gender stereotype as well

Yea I think a lot of men initially get into exercise to attract women but the ones that really stick with it end up doing it for themselves after they realize how much better they feel, both physically and mentally. Of course there will always be people who do things for different reasons but in general this has been my experience.

It can be for women but attract women for unintended reasons. Confidence is attractive and if they get confidence through gaining muscle it still works.
