Yeah, and it was also a dog whistle to conservatives to feel under represented and "oppressed" by the presence of a non white person as a superhero.

The people you're talking about can easily clarify it by saying "I don't like it, but I'm happy to see more women and people of color in these roles". Bish bash bosh, not a racist.

For example:

That Miss Marvel show didn't appeal to me because it was clearly a coming of age story made for young teens.

[–] dangblingus@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Okay, but that was you. There were thousands more broskis online that hated it simply because it reminded them that minorities exist.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern 11 points 11 months ago

Sure. But you can tell what they are because they say things like "the agenda" and "forced diversity," or spend time getting mad that a Marvel series had the nerve to be made for young people.

[–] oatscoop@midwest.social 10 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I didn't go see it because I'm burnt out on Marvel movie seemingly made MadLibs style with the same 3 predictable plots and a word bank of characters and settings.

Location: Your mom's house

Ok someone else pick the characters and plot.

no nuance, please... we aren't divided enough.

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee -1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Or "I didn't like it, and I don't need a reason why"

[–] David_Eight@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Is that really how you talk to people?

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee -3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

My friends don't typically demand I justify my opinions.

[–] David_Eight@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

What? How do you have a conversation with people without explaining your thoughts? In my head your conversations go like this lol

Person: Hey Ilovethebomb, you see the new marvel movie.

You: Yeah, I didn't like it.

Person: Really, why not?

You: I don't need a reason why.

So again, is that really how you talk to people. It can't be right?

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee -4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You keep having conversations in your head.

[–] David_Eight@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I can only assume from your inability to answer my question that the answer is yes, you really do talk to people like that. What a strange way to go through life. Why join a social media network just to be antisocial lol.

You really just invented a hypothetical scenario in your head and got angry about it, didn't you?

[–] David_Eight@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Angry, no. More confused, I just found your comment interesting and asked you to clarify. You refused to, so I'll never know what you meant, which is fine. There's really nothing left to discuss then. Best of luck my friend 🖖.

[–] killeronthecorner@lemmy.world -4 points 11 months ago

Can you hear that whistling sound? No? Does that mean it isn't there?

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 3 points 11 months ago

They have Homelander, what more do they need?

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee -2 points 11 months ago

I'm allowed to not like things without having to justify myself.
