Ooof, in the 2020 Castle Fire alone: "10 to 14 percent of all large sequoias [were killed] across the tree's natural range in the Sierra Nevada."

That's just devastating. I didn't see a summation of total numbers of killed trees between the listed fires, but it's heartbreaking to know we're losing so many of these 2-3,000 year old trees that will never be replaced on any human timescale.

With assisted migration, we can certainly find a new home for new sequoias. Lots of good habitat in the PNW. But that won’t save the ancient trees.

The only option is to stop burning fossil fuels. Get it stay involved in politics and talk to your friends and family.
