Hey I was wondering if anyone knows how I can change the default keyboard.

I know this is a little bit odd. But I want to figure out how to add a Morse code keyboard with ideally a different button selection to kick it off.

I know the basics of Morse (it is pretty easy with Google's training website).

So without a keyboard I would like to be able to change the back 4 grip buttons to:

Top left short dash, top right long dash, bottom left control (so I can hopefully hold it or click it to use multiple keys at once), and bottom right keyboard appear and disappear.

Anyone want to help me make my goofy dream a reality?

Using the keypad on screen means having to move your hands off the controls, using the keyboard with the touch pads is kinda challenging to do quickly, and the buttons to bring up the keyboard are slightly annoying to use.

Doesn't Morse lack a number of characters that are useful nowadays?

But I suppose it could be kind of useful for quick in-game chat in uppercase English.

(how do you say MEDIC in Morse?)
:)

Presumably you could Huffman encode ascii or UTF8 and represent it as a compatible Morse extension.

Honestly I just have learned the basics. So I am not sure what all it is missing. But for my use it works perfectly. Check out this site though. If you use it for a week you will probably be as comfortable as me.

For medic it would be -- . -.. .. -.-.

Seems like a lot of extra work but for games that have a lot of hot keys I could see it being helpful. Also for just doing short chats it isn't too crazy.

Honestly I use a keyboard every day for work I wouldn't mind varying how I input data into a system. Voice chat still isn't there and this is a tried and true communication protocol.

The idea is interesting at any rate. I expect that you'll let us know if you manage to make it work.

Will do! I am getting moved to a shift role shortly so I should have some free time opening up to experiment with.
