Despite being the only defender to win the balon dor in recent time, I feel like he’s never mentioned among the all time great defenders. Was he truly the best player in the world in 2006? And was he one of the best cbs of his generation

He was good, but I don't feel like he ever was really the best defender in the world. Not for the majority of people at least.
