General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Yeah I was going to say, most libraries have free internet that you just have to register to use (my current library even has a few workstations for unregistered), then remembered how many libraries have closed due to funding cuts imposed on councils by the tories.

My local library was going to be demolished and the Council were going to use the proceeds of the sale of the land to build a new one. Until people pointed out that it was pretty much the only one left in the area where people could get online for free and the plan would leave a gap of unknown length (parts of the plan involve sites that have been in planning limbo since 2008) until a new one was available.

My local library has signs up asking us to use the services as much as possible. Everything is recorded for budget reasons. They can justify there place if they can show we have x visitors for y.

Why are they doing this? So the council can decide which library is under performing so it can be closed so people can go to the big library in the city centre.

It's a terrible plan.

That's disgraceful. Got to feel for the people working there, knowing that their jobs are on the line with pretty much no control over the outcome.
