I always considered it to be an ironic meme, but at some point any publicity is too much publicity.
Don't take these guys that seriously.
There's a Calvin and Hobbes version that is simply superior but at this point any damage possible from advertising Crowder has been done, and anyone that still pays attention to him after his very well earned divorce is a lost cause regardless.
Plus, as old people, they don't know the youths don't know who Calvin is.
