Made entirely from 1x2 pine. Ripped into thirds for the shelf slats. Pocket holes. Glue. Brads and glue for the shelf slats.

That tiny bit of pine wood cost 90 dollaroos?! Christ, no wonder I can never afford to make anything :-(

That's like, 6 full weeks of house electricity payments right there, haha.

You may benefit from a energy efficient fridge. Old appliances can cost a lot of extra energy (or are using AC/Electric Heating, that will cost extra of course).

If he had bought a sheet and ripped his own slats on a table saw it’d have been cheaper. But then he’d have to have a table saw. Fabrication is mostly front loaded. If you aren’t equipped for it then economies of scale is working against you.
