Deanna Troi played poker even though she can tell when people are lying.
Geordi can see through the cards, and Data is a supercomputer. I guess its just a testament to how Godly of a Poker player Riker is that he could consistently clear that table. Poor Worf never stood a chance.

I'm too sad to remember things tonight, but I feel like we've seen multiple scenes of Klingons praising... let's call it "tactical bravado".

She mentions it in a later season and basically says "don't worry, I don't read you during our games" which was probably BS, because most Troi episodes revolve around her not being able to "turn off" her powers.
I think she has to concentrate to know who's emotions she is receiving. Otherwise she can only tell that someone is bluffing.
maybe she means that she just tunes out their emotions somehow
