Sad to see Lamont step down. I've always been impressed with his work, and wish him the best

I wonder if the MLP folds eventually. I like them, but strategic voting sinks them.

At this point, I don't think anything would be lost if they were to rebrand/rename themselves.

[–] troyunrau@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, they aren't officially affiliated with the federal liberals at all, so a rebrand lets them distinguish their platform better.

I wish the Liberal party would be relevant here. Just to prevent the once a decade flip from Blue to orange and back. Lamont stepping down, and Gerrard losing seems like a good time to blow things up and start fresh.

I think the best thing for the Liberals and NDPs would be to come to an agreement to just bow out of races where all they'll do is split the non-PC vote and have the most popular candidate for the area remain. If they did this, they both would probably get more seats. The PCs certainly wouldn't be helped.

I'd rather the Province focas on election reform, so we don't end up with a 2 party system. I personally like the Single Transferable Vote system, but at this point I don't care as long as it's not FPTP.

[–] GreyEyedGhost@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

Oh, I agree entirely. FPTP is a poor system at best. I'm not sure what it would take to change it at the provincial level, and it's clear the Liberals won't do it at the federal level, despite what they may say.

I'm so bothered by my neighbors in tuxedo who split the vote and allowed Heather to remain an MLA.

Agreed, the parties need to be strategic but the Liberals are so irrelevant now it's hardly worth the conversation.

I think there are two or three ridings that would give a better response to a liberal candidate. Giving them enough to have the chance to achieve official party status would probably be a good incentive to go along with it.
