For the immediate future. Sure.

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I think there’s a sentiment that we need a third party.

No - we need a second party. The Democratic Party may be corrupt, but the Republican Party committed suicide. The full downfall will be when Donald Trump dies (hopefully not of old age).

[–] ZMoney@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

People have been saying the Republican Party is collapsing for decades. It's kind of like how capitalism was supposed to collapse under the weight of its contradictions. Doesn't seem to be happening any time soon.

[–] Subdivide6857@midwest.social 4 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Absolutely not. Burn the whole thing to the ground.

[–] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Oh shit, things are significantly worse now.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world -4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Maybe if we continue to refuse to support the progressive party in protest then things won't get significantly worse again next time? /s

[–] Subdivide6857@midwest.social 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

There is no progressive party. We have two parties doing their best to support billionaires.

Alright. Were you still planning on casting a vote (write in "None" or something) or were you kust planning on decreasing your voting demographics influence?

[–] Subdivide6857@midwest.social 10 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I’ll be voting for socialists. My votes will no longer go towards the people that actively work against the working class. The two right winger parties in this hell hole can go fuck themselves.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Same, and it's a shame that the Dems can't fail hard enough to get the ideologues to do anything differently.

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago

As long as you're voting.

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yes, BUT, we gotta get those conservative fuckers out first. Baby steps.

[–] Subdivide6857@midwest.social 9 points 3 days ago

That’s been the game. Back and forth political theater. A vote for a billionaire bootlicker is a vote against the working class.

it took decades of this sort of strategy to get us here; expecting an immediate change is unrealistic.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I'm not sure where you've been recently, but it seems pretty apparent that if you're a president with control of Congress, you can fundamentally change American's culture and governance systems in mere months.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

you mean like the democrats had in the first 2 years of biden's term?

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

That's exactly what I mean.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If you don’t care about breaking the law or the actual outcomes anyway.

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 1 points 2 days ago

Laws are a concept that only some of us seem to agree upon and has no real world repercussions for the wealthy since they aren't like laws of physics and are only enforced for those that can't afford to negate them.

Not knowing how things will go is just how the world works. We need leadership that at least tries and pushes for change and asks around for support making it, not money to vote yes.

Nope. Biggest group is non voting. How are those abortion rights being protected? By abstaining you've left them able to be removed. Tankies are so unserious. No vote for minimizing harm or growing a progressive wing.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

the democrats lost so many voters in this last election that there's no longer enough 3rd party voters to make up for the difference and they'll continue to lose voters as the democrats keep shifting to the right.

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world -2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ive said before. If you are in a red state, blue no matter who is the best you can do. That should slow down the erosion of your rights and give more time to organize. If you are in a blue state you need to show up to primaries to grow the progressive wing. Tankies are unwilling to do either; hence they are un-serious.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

what evidence do you have for this?

EDIT: are you expecting leftists to show up to democratic primaries. if so, why would people of one party show up to the primary of another party? if this is the case; you should see what the deomocrats did to bernie in 2016 and 2020 as well as how they're reacting to mamdani right now.

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world -4 points 2 days ago

For better or worse the dems is where the small progressive wing we have lives. Your bad attitude about voting is what got us the republican super majority and so many of our hard fought battles rolled back so quickly. None voting is still the larges block going back decades, so no this has not already been tried.
