Personally I think dietary protein requirements are overstated and people don't need as much as is recommended.

[–] Gorgritch_umie_killa@aussie.zone 1 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Really? Thats certainly a bold take. For me I'm happy to be guided by people who know more on the subject.

Thinking about it, i suppose it could come down to experts looking for best health delivery, versus what people can actually survive with? I don't know.

[–] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

From the reading I've done, you want to get at least 10% of dietary energy from each of the three sources - protein, carbs and lipids. Beyond that, the other 70% is less important. However the broscience advice is so strong that many people believe you need 1g/protein per pound of body weight. IIRC the recommended split is 50% carbs, 30% protein, 20% lipids.

You present lipids like they are somewhat more important than i ever realised. So now i'm thinking theres the no carb diets, the protein diets, wheres the lipids diet?

And, have we just stumbled upon a gap in the bro science fad diet scene? Is this our Million dollar idea!?!

Move over Atkins, its time tobtake the world by storm with the Sane-Gorgritch Diet! Or maybe it could be called the Lipids Delight?

[–] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The ketogenic diet is lipid based. As much as the keto people don't want to hear a word against it I don't feel it's the ideal choice. A simple balance of whole foods is hard to beat.

Oh really? Yeah, the Keto diet is a popular one as well. Most people i've known who are into that sort of thing have tried the keto at some stage.

Ah, my dreams are dashed!! Oh well, better call the dealership and cancel my Lamborghini order..

Most people get much more protein than is recommended by government health bodies. People seem to think more is better when it comes to protein.

Hahaha, yeah, as i read this my mind instantly went to those gym bro's gulping their massive shakes.
