She doesn't want anything to do with any of them though right? So this joke don't really work.

Isn’t that a cliche of all arranged marriages?

[–] maniacalmanicmania@aussie.zone 29 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Sure but I think this joke is also leaning into the Trumps being transphobic and including Musk's trans daughter (sorry I forget their name). So the joke also comes off as transphobic in a way.

It didn’t come off to me as transphobic - I just saw the ancient historical precedent of the elite marrying their offspring to one another.

I don’t know OOPs intent, though, so I can’t make a strong argument either way. I’m just describing how I saw it.

To be fair I think Vivian's picture was used because she is the only recognisable child of Musk, and also because I think most of his other children are still literal children. There is probably no ill intent from the original post and I doubt OP shared it for transphobic reasons. The joke should land, but it doesn't. At least not for anyone who recognises Vivian in the picture and knows what she has been through. That's the nature of comedy.

I think she was included to mock the notion of aristocratic bloodlines. Arranged (forced) marriages between royal families were always for the purpose of procreation and, well...

But yeah, you need so much setup and context and certainty around the bona fides of the OP that the punchline itself (if I'm even right about the intended punchline) just gets suffocated.

There's only one guaranteed way this joke would land and that's if Vivian herself had posted it.

Gotcha - I don’t know any of Musk’s offspring by sight (or even name; just that some of them maybe look like a cat walked across a keyboard?)

I knew he had a trans daughter that hates him but didn’t know this was her.

Her name is Vivian, and up until the last two or three years she is the only daughter he had. According to her, Musk selected male embryos for IVF (which is how all of his children have been conceived). I'm not sure how Grimes and Shivon got around that to have their girls with him

The joke works regardless of whether she is trans or not. What you're saying effectively means that I shouldn't share the meme simply because a trans-woman is shown.

The joke works. It just ain't funny. Context matters. It's not just because Vivian is trans. It's because Vivian is not one of them. She's disowned and disenfranchised. If Vivian was a hypocrite and in line to inherit any money whatsoever the joke might have landed. But it doesn't. No big deal. That's the nature of comedy. A lot of it misses the mark. Like this meme.
