If you're a voyager user avoid piefed as it's not yet supported, although apparently on the roadmap.
If you're in the UK you can't use lemmy.zip due to the bs OSA.
Aside from that just check the the instance you're moving to federates with the communities you subscribe to.
Thank you. Are any instances known for federating with basically everything (beside absolutely extreme stuff maybe)? Something that I can take blind with reasonable expectation that I don't loose much?
I moved to lemmy.zip for this reason, nothing is defederated except the CSAM stuff. On lemmy.zip by default hexbear and lemmygrad blocked on the user level, you can unblock them in the settings

If you like science, mander is a great instance that is broadly federated. And you get a cool science feed on your local filter to boot.
