I actually loved this; it's so esoteric in all the right ways. I would read a book series set in this universe.

Special shout out to this line; "A wiry hand holding a mouse pointed at the back of a head." idk if you intended to evoke computer mouse imagery, but for me, the only thing I pictured was a literal live mouse pointed at the back of someone's head like a fucking weird ass wand, and I loved the imagery of that.
