Self acceptance. Hygiene. Bodily autonomy. Illusion of choice. Style preference. Depends on the person.
If you are balding, you've really only got the choice between shaving and not shaving. Many prefer to feel like they still have some agency in the matter.
My understanding of "bald" was very strict. I see now that the term is also used for people that are in the process of balding, but i guess once the process takes hold there isn't much (outside of cosmetic surgery) difference in the final stage.
