Oohhh I've been downloading torrents for as long as they've been a thing and I just got my first email from an ISP saying stop it.
"We have received a Copyright Infringement Notification informing us that your IP Address was used to illegally download and distribute copyrighted material.
Please note: We are required by law to provide your personal information to copyright holders if requested.
The offending filename was: Star.Trek.Lower.Decks.S04E01.1080p.WEB.h264-ETHEL[TGx] The date of the infringement was: 2023-09-14T09:54:57Z
Please cease any and all downloading or distribution of copyrighted material immediately."
Which is legit, I totally did that. I guess I better start actually using my VPN because I am absolutely not paying for Paramount+ just for Star Trek with all of the other streaming services I pay for.
You devious cad!!!
My VPN gets a lot of mileage these days since dropping a few streaming services.
Straight to jail!
If it's mostly newer releases you torrent, look into a debrid service like real debrid. All your ISP can see is that you're downloading from a debrid service, not the torrent itself. Cheap, fast and high quality. I've had great experience with RealDebrid + Stremio + Torrentio. The RD website looks sus as hell but it is a real thing.
(Apologies if you already know all this of course)
Kodi + Seren + RealDebrid works really well too.... I'm told.
Similar concept I think. I've had great 2080p streaming of recent releases using RD. Good stuff. I used to be in the camp of wanting to download everything to my local drive permanently but now I honestly don't mind streaming.
I did not know this! Ty!
Thank you :) I haven't looked into changing my ways for some time so this and now seems like as good of a time as any. I've just been torrenting and using my main PC as a Plex Media Server for my other devices (tablet, Shield TV Pro) locally but this seems neater. I'm running through a setup guide for them now.
Thanks for the heads up! I always wondered if those were all connected.
I nick stuff ,especially when I have all the subscriptions but the station can't be fucked broadcasting final series or they think $30 to watch one movie is fine
Which ISP caught on to you and was there a third party involved?
Pineapple Net, which is my building's fibre optic ISP. It used to be Spirit for years but they sold to Pineapple Net during COVID sometime.. annoyingly automatically bumping me up to a more expensive but faster plan.
What do you mean third party? Like Paramount, etc? I assume they or a company they employ put a tracker on that torrent and reported to Pineapple Net.
I think Paramount would be the one involved with the complaint in this case or someone connected to them, your isp wouldn’t care until someone complained and traced the IP back to them.
mate check out flixtor
That seems to only do up to 720p.. yucky
yeah fair but i cba downloading torrents so i just go the easy way. i think the premium sub has 1080p though
Can heartily recommend PIA
