I hate whoever changed this nomenclature. It's PM and I will die on this hill.

Turns out most PMs weren't actually private since site admins and mods could see them, so they switched to 'direct message' as a more honest description.

I always thought "PM" stands for "Personal Message", which is more or less an okay description. You send a message to someone "personally", not in-person, but close enough, I suppose.

Player Master? I don't think this will ever catch on.

Most TLA's are horribly overloaded (T for 2).

At first I read that as "top-level aliases" and wondered why you meant T for 2.

Then I suddenly realized the more pressing question: if there are top-level aliases, are there sub aliases? And what would they look like?

Preventative maintenance?

I am too afraid to search this.. I thought PMs meant menstural cycles in some cultures.. Like british if I am not mistaken.

I would assume that prime minister would be more common in Britain. But even if it is also something with the menstrual cycle what would be wrong with that? It's just something some people have.

When trying to check the first result I got was actually the plus-minus sign (\pm in LaTeX) which is also cool.
