Isn’t this just class infighting though

Nah. It's trying to affect the bottom line of an extremely wealthy person who uses his wealth to the detriment of average Americans. Limit the wealth. Limit the amount of damage he can do. Or, we could do nothing to his bottom line and he can become even more wealthy and do even more than buy a presidency and deconstruct our government, illegally laying off thousands of federal workers.

Also, I can't afford a Tesla. So I'm not even sure if I consider Tesla owners to be of the same class as I am.

You do know he already got paid for those so you are not impacting anything except some rando innocent person who now will actively hate your cause and move further towards the fascist side? Or maybe you don't. Know it or not burning peoples Tesla's is one of the absolute worst and stupidest moves someone can do if they actually want things to change. That just adds one more them to the "us vrs them".

The damage done to the Teslas costs insurance companies money. Insurance companies hate paying for stuff, so if this is sustained, insurance rates for Teslas will increase. That combined with dealing with the vandalism itself gives customers a reason not to use a Tesla, which means car dealerships and rentals will sell less, who will then purchase less ultimately losing Tesla money. People who buy expensive cars from fascists who are actively controlling our government aren't innocent, and IMO the people vandalizing Teslas are doing more for society than the peaceful parades and book clubs are since it actually costs them something.

And all those peoples whose cars burn turn to the MAGAts in a rage and join the team up to 'own the libs' even harder. Even if the plan worked, which is highly unlikely, it would do more damage than it would help. Yeah it would be great to tear down Musks fortune. Not going to stop Trump from being president though and it will make more people want to vote for his side next time. Yeah. That sound super helpful. Y'all are so convinced you are right that no argument is going to change your mind. You are as bad as a MAGAt when it comes to listening and really thinking about things you do not immediately agree with. Ignore the forest for the trees...

If these are the best ideas and people that the left has to offer we are never going to win this. Ugh.

If they're pushed away from harming property owned by the relatively well-off but not from committing genocide on actual people, then that's on them

Do you have any better ideas?

Biggest and easiest method would be to co opt the primary process. So many fewer people vote on who the actual party candidate will be that it is far easier to influence the final election. If enough registered Dems actually participated in the primaries we could get someone like Bernie in. To really mess with the Repubs people could co opt their party instead, though asking Dems to register as Republicans would be a lot more difficult. Keep screwing Musk as well. Can burn up the ones at dealerships still, they are insured too so the idea of insurance companies not wanting to insure Tesla would still be viable, though definitely slower and more difficult but this way we are at least not pushing undecided folks over to the wrong side. Protesting is always useful those should definitely keep going. In fact most of what the left is doing is helpful, this one specific action I think is counterproductive though. Definitely the biggest change that can be made is participation in the primaries. At the very least we could get an actual left leaning Democrat instead of a weak willed centrist. At best it would be possible to co opt both (though that part would be highly unlikely).

If we go the electoral route, I think the main first focus needs to be on local elections in cities since those have the biggest proportion of progressive voters and less obstacles to fuck them over. In this case, probably the biggest problem aside from far-right conservatives is progress being inherently more divisive than keeping the status quo so winning over trust is difficult and Democratic voters are still biased toward voting for conservatives, as shown by the amount of people I've seen voting for conservative Democrats over progressives because they're afraid that the progressives will lose elections, which then ironically leads us to people losing trust in Democrats because they don't do shit and ignore problems that impact most people (or even worsen them). Competing with fascist candidates and their successful marketing would require very careful/well-coordinated and intense outreach to motivate people and also focusing primarily on offering solutions to domestic economic issues over stuff like LGBTQ and Palestine while simultaneously keeping strong stances on those issues as well (which is the opposite of what most Democrats are doing) and dodging attacks from the far right. Considering how badly the Democrats fucked up their reputation, I'm not sure if it would be better to run as Democrat or third party at this point. I do know that my local PSL chapter is interested in running candidates if they can find people who are interested in running and know how to navigate this sort of stuff, and PSL, while still being relatively obscure, has won a few local elections in the past.

Even with this there is still a long way to go, since even the most "progressive" parts of the country are still capitalist racist shitholes with most of the same problems as more conservative cities. Federal politics is extremely fucked and the people currently in power will do everything they can to prevent an actual leftist from peacefully gaining power, even moreso with Republicans controlling all branches of government. So it doesn't address the immediate issue of Trump/Musk genociding Palestinians, deporting immigrants left and right and sending them to concentration camps in remote areas, stripping away LGBTQ rights, and privatizing public services while worsening the state of the economy while a third of the country cheers it on.

[–] Necroscope0@lemm.ee 1 points 3 days ago

Yup, I agree with all of this. We have a lot of work to do in several areas to fix this shit, that much is for sure. The third party thing would really only work in the local elections though. Presidential elections are set up to be damn near impossible for a third party to compete as anything other than a potential spoiler.
