I've had an interest in 3d printing for a while and had a few models on my wishlist, but long story short a mutual friend wanted an upgrade, and I was the first one to accept their model that they no longer needed. I cannot ask them for help. I'll probably try to ask them what specifically they changed about the printer, but I can't know that they'll take the time to respond to me.

I'd like to know where to start with this. I got what seems like an entire 3d printer in addition to a box with a bunch of parts and stuff in it. I'm wondering if I should disassemble the printer and put it back together to get an idea of what I'm dealing with? Or if I should just be grateful it's together and try and use it. It'd also be helpful if someone could help me identify which parts are not stock and what I should expect while using those parts.

Thank you,

Semi

Good recommendations, it's almost the same list of upgrades that I've done to my E3v2. I went with a dual Z-screw upgrade which uses a sync belt instead of a second motor, since I use the stock board and didn't want to run two steppers off the same driver (it should work IIRC, but it seemed annoying if they get out of sync since the printer can't level them individually)

Also never use that damn scraper everyone I know who has including myself has a scar from it lol

I use it all the time if a model won't come off easily. I grab the blade between two fingers, and then hammer the model from the side with the handle to knock it off the plate :)

You do NOT need an all metal hotend with this, use the stock red one it’s all you need

Technically the hotend becomes "all metal" with this, as the PTFE-tube does not go all the way down to the nozzle after the upgrade. Best illustration I could find

Hammering the model off is how I lost a quarter inch of glass out of my bed haha thats when I switched to PEI and just flex the plate to remove stuff now. PETG and glass never really got along for me though and I primarily print that on my 3.

Correct it turns it all metal, I just remember being back and forth on what else I needed to buy at that point and really just a good heatbrake does wonders, no larger heat sink or anything at least not until you start changing other stuff up.

Hehe, PETG and glass is a notorious combination, I only printed it a few times but I put covered the bed with blue painter's tape just to be on the safe side. I've never really had any adhesion problems after starting to use Magigoo (which I also never wash off, I just add another layer every few months) but occasionally I get a bit impatient waiting for the bed to cool down.
