kind of sucks idk if AI or not
The cynic in me is a pretty concerned that all this skepticism of whether anything and everything was actually AI generated, is going to be weaponised much further than it already is to brainwash even more rubes into a false reality. People are gonna be living in VR without ever putting a headset on.
Incriminating photo? Obviously AI.
Corruption on recording? Duh it's a deepfake.
It's not really clear how we mitigate this one, tbh.
Not sure if this is optimistic or not, I feel like it's going to suck for awhile until we just don't trust anything digital ever again. There will just be an assumption that anything digital is not real. We'll go back to "If it's on the internet, it must be true" being a joke. Also not sure if that's a good or bad thing.
This already happens. Audio recordings can have a hard time holding up in court as a core piece of evidence because low quality audio has been able to be faked for decades now.
It says 2 years ago on the post so I doubt it. However, I'd like to remind people that it doesn't have to be AI to be fake, a dude could just apply a filter to a photo they took in recent times. The Internet isn't exactly a place to be believed without proper sources.
Tineye can place bounds on how late an image could have been created.

I suppose someone could have synthesized it using older tools -- generative AI wasn't the first way to create images, even if it's pretty potent and easy to use -- but it was online long before the sort of generative AI systems we have today existed. They weren't used to create it.
FWIW, I saw this photo before ChatGPT launched, pretty safe bet it's not AI.
