Cats meow at us cause in their eyes, we're not perceptive enough to understand their more subtle body language.
There is not much grammar, it's more like HELLOOO! PET ME!! FOOOD NOW!!!
And you're replying with HELLOOO! PET ME!! FOOOD NOW!!!
It's literally baby speak. AFAIK, adult cats only meow to kittens.
Idk about that my cat is having full blown conversations with one of the neighbours cats she's friendly with. Mostly as a calling sound after which they chill on top of our shed.
It is baby speak so to speak since their meows are modulated to sound like babies crying to get our attention more easily.
Slightly worse than that in some ways. Domestication of both dogs and cats seems to stunt their development at the younger stages of puberty. They never actually become adult cats and dogs, we stunted both their growth, and theirs, by domesticating them and us.
