I agree except TikTok is a totally fucked up social media
I would argue the same for Twitter and Facebook. Yet the same people said blocking those was authoritarian censorship.
They both suck for sure. That's why we're here in the first place.
Here's a question to consider; without making any statement on the facts of these particular cases specifically, is it conceivable to you that there could ever be a situation where two countries could institute these specific bans for materially different reasons?
What I'm asking is, does a universe exist where country A bans access to Facebook, Twitter, etc for entirely or almost entirely different reasons than country B banning access to Tiktok?
And the yank shit - twitter, meta - are only 98% fucked up! The CHOICE is obvious!
I would argue x is worse.

Believe it or not, there was Internet communication before social media.
I'd argue things like IRC, usenet, etc were also social media, only the term hadn't been coined yet.
There is a fundamental difference between a chatroom and a social media feed. The second one is painfully easy to hijack to do some damage, the first one not so much.
