Can anyone recommend a hard scifi/fantasy book that explicitly uses maps/diagrams/other illustrations as part of its "hardness"? (lemmy.ml)

Title, I basically want to see a book that would be like a technical book on science or engineering or naval strategy if it weren't fiction.

I don't really remember either, mostly just found it underwhelming and a waste of potential. Never watched the movies as a result.
