Not at all weird. There’s a whole underground community of people who view release logs as basically fetish pr0n.

I noticed this too. Whenever I really like a piece of software I'm eager to get update notes, because I trust the folks behind those projects to actually improve things and add interesting new stuff. It's just a nice feeling to see a good thing get even better.
