World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

They're not uneducated. They're desperate, and they spent the last 8 years watching both parties ignore how much they're struggling. Why miss a day of work when you know your vote doesn't matter?
Also, you need to ditch this smugness if you want to win people to your side.
Spend 8 years watching both parties ignote their struggles, and then vote for the one that's actively promising to make them worse?
Bold move, Cotton.
I think they're talking about people who didn't vote at all, not Trump voters.
They clearly are since they acted against their best interests and only the uneducated and insufferably weak willed work against themselves.
you seem to be under the misconception that I'm trying to win people to my cause. I refuse to pander to their absurd ideals and will not coddle them like children.
point blank, I don't give a damn about their fragile sensibilities about whatever political wedge they want to believe in on a whim.
the people who refused to vote, that allowed this to happen, could rot in the streets as far as I care. They are simply a distraction from the true enemy, Russia and China.
I will do everything within my power to resist Russian and Chinese aggressions. I don't know what I'm going to do, but I know I'm going to do everything I can to be a huge pain in the ass for them.
this includes but is not limited to the netizens who have and are spreading their propaganda.
every raging river starts as a flowing stream.
Apathetic != uneducated. Plenty of people don't vote because they can't be bothered to.
My own mother refused to register for DECADES because "I don't want to be picked for jury duty." Not making that up. I finally convinced her to register after pointing out jury duty also comes from drivers license records.
So what you're saying is that your mom was pretty uneducated and only participated in the voting process after you educated her.
sounds like they failed American civics, which makes them uneducated.
sounds like your mother failed civics as well.
I bet you were frustrated. Now imagine 20 million Americans refusing to vote to stop a literal Nazi from gaining power again. I would ask how you would convince those 20 million but it doesn't matter anymore.
when you fail to vote, you lose.
when we fail to vote, we all lose.
Yup, and the sad part is, I called it before the election. The only reason voter participation was up in 2020 was because Covid restrictions encouraged vote by mail.
Without the vote by mail push, participation was going to drop, and because the Democrats benefited more from vote by mail, it was going to hurt them.
Surprise, surprise, that's exactly what happened.
No... no they're uneducated and it's very much the correct word in this.
Regular rants "Why won't Biden just get rid of student debt?" Because the Supreme Court stopped him. Twice. Telling him it's congresses job.
"Why hasn't Biden helped the economy" CHIPS act and moving major manufacturing back to America. Gonna take time for it to spin up after so long of sending jobs out of country but it's gotta go. Also some of the biggest infrastructure movements since the New Deal despite the Republicans in Congress trying to stop it.
The big hit during election of people googling "Did Biden drop out?"
Yea. That's uneducated.
