I doubt they're going after Filipinos any time soon. That would seriously piss off a solid ally who borders the South China Sea. We may well want the full use of both Manila Bay and Subic Bay again (Subic Bay is just West of Manila.). From where else would we project power and/or defend Taiwan?

You're attributing a level of foresight to people that is far above their capacity to wield it.
