It's like back in the 80s, when games had amazing hand-drawn covers and then the graphics was just text or simple shapes, but now with gameplay.
Those AD&D Dragonlance games from the 90s had such killer box art lol, especially for the time!

That was different though. Nobody was expecting such graphics back then.
And in that specific instance the box art is just trying to match the kind of art you'd find on D&D book covers of the time
