Simply reporting on what Trump says he wants is irresponsible, it just amplifies the message and increases the already catastrophic damage to our democratic norms.

If he must cover the non-event of a madman dropping nutty shit on us, cover it as such. "Trump thinks he should be in charge of the Democratic party, too". Only once you've set the table, and the reader has the context that he's being completely unreasonable, should the reader hear the words of a madman.

It's just been a decade of the press being an obedient bullhorn for his brain damaged evil ramblings and I wish they had more sense, and did literally any introspection before repeating him.

You don't think Trump demanding the other party go back to the previous candidate so he can have a better chance doesn't come across as inherently insane? Not to mention makes him look very desperate?
