Heading in to our first game of the season. Has anyone noticed anything different enough this year that it caused you to do a double-take? Any tips on new places or things to do?

Would be nice if this and the Kraken communities had some auto-posting game day threads.

Ouch, the loss today hurts after being ahead so late in the game.

Would love to see some Mariners discussion in Lemmy so I thought I’d ask everyone what they think our chances of making the playoffs are. After a monster month in August it looks like we might be imploding in Sept.

I think we broke them.

Giving the Angels a nice little beat down to about end their season is pretty nice.

Damnit.

Simple question but it feels like a hard one to actually answer. We're basically a .500 team so far. We're 5 games away from a wild card spot, so not insurmountable at this point in the season but not super close either. Do we go try to trade for a big piece that puts us into the race? Or do we sell? It isn't like we need a complete teardown, that's not what I'm asking about. But we do have several veterans who will be free agents next year who we might be able to move, though only one, Teoscar, would have any real value. So what do you guys say, throw minor league value into a potential run when we're playing .500 ball, or try to grab some value by trading Teoscar and a couple underperforming vets?

Just a really good breakdown of the players we drafted a couple days ago by type. You get a good sense of the kinds of players the organization likes.

Not that he will, but at least we're doing our part to entice him.

Pitching sixteen innings of one-run ball against two good lineups will do that, I guess.

Hi! I’m the admin over at fanaticus.social. We’re a sports-only instance. We already host some of the biggest baseball communities on lemmy.

I wanted to open a dialogue about consolidating our two communities into !mariners@fanaticus.social. We've been hard at work on our game bots but are missing the content and users that make this community fun.

I propose that the mods of this community migrate to the mariners community on fanaticus and mod there instead and make this community private with a pinned post directing users to your new home on fanaticus (see this community as an example).

The major benefits I see in this arrangement are:

  1. Allows new users (esp. non-technical users) to find their sports communities easier
  2. Protects users from losing access to their favorite sports/teams' communities due to de-federation conflicts (e.g. beehaw vs lemmy.world)
  3. Allows bot developers and content-creators to more easily collaborate and create content for our communities

Finally, I just want to be clear that I'm not trying to steal anyone’s communities or be an uber-mod or anything nefarious. I’m also not proposing anyone switch their home instance to fanaticus. What I’m saying is that I believe it would be best for the health of the sports communities, especially in their infancy, to consolidate to a topic-specific sports instance like fanaticus.

Let me know your thoughts!

I know nothing about this prospect, but it is interesting to see us go after another high school bat.

Pretty ridiculous honestly. Surprised he didn't get ejected, which is usually the penalty for this kind of intentional interference at first base. Wouldn't be surprised if this series gets chippy starting tonight.

Looking forward to the rest of the Houston series. Maybe a sweep? Maybe? And the offense is still not totally clicking. Julio, Kelenic, France, Cal, and Teoscar have all been a little cool here lately(or longer).

Gonna need an upgrade at 2b cause Caballero isn't a starter and Wong just doesn't seem to have it.

Looks like there is a whole instance dedicated to sports stuff including MLB and already has a bot up and running for mariners stuff.

Found it while digging around trying to build a bot and thought people here might be interested.

It's !Mariners@fanaticus.social . That's probably where I'll be moving over to.

Brilliant pitching by Bryce Miller and White Sox starter Lance Lynn was the story of the third game in the series. The Mariners helped Lynn set a new personal record and tie a team record of 16 strikeouts in a game. But two of the Mariners' four hits against Lynn came in the same inning, bringing two runners across. A Jarred Kelenic triple with the bases loaded in the 8th inning sealed the game and series win for the Mariners. Bryce Miller went 7 innings, allowing only 4 hits, 1 run, and no walks.

With the win, the Mariners come back to .500 before heading to New York to take on the Yankees. In the race for the division, the Rangers maintained their lead and Shohei Ohtani personally willed the Angels to pull ahead of the struggling Astros.

I usually hop on Reddit to watch the game thread and see the heckles scroll by while I'm at the stadium.

Well here I am watching the White Sox game about to start and figured I'd check Lemmy if I could get a similar experience. Seems like the community is small but I'm just surprised to find others here.

Figured I'd say hello and show some support.

Edit: Ayyy, 3-2 Mariners looks like a good night for us. Thanks for hanging out

Could have sworn the chyron showed 2-2 before the walk. Ever since the Jon Bois video on the same subject I try to keep an eye out for them.

Just a refugee from Reddit and thought would try this place out.

Didn't see a place to discuss the Mariners so if looking for somewhere to do that? maybe here?
