Believed to be one of the first Kroger grocery stores in Atlanta, this tiny building would barely rank as a convenience store today. Upstairs hosted a Masonic Lodge. Despite the tumultuous economic history of the area, it still stands today and will be preserved and renovated as part of development on this street corner.

If you're not local to the south and 2" long insects fall on you while outside, do not be alarmed. This is not the apocalypse. It is merely raining cicadas. They are harmless to humans, but important part of the food chain. I promise, there are no verified reports of cicadas carrying off people or pets.

As the adults finish mating, they'll lay their eggs and trundle off to die.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, early arrivals from the 2024 brood!

The demolition project is located at the point where three southeast Atlanta neighborhoods—Ormewood Park, Woodland Hills, and Boulevard Heights—converge, between Moreland Avenue and the BeltLine’s Southside Trail corridor.
