Hello all!

I've been trying to ween myself off of the news cycle lately, so I've been looking into apps that I can use instead. Right now, I'm trying out WikWok, which is a free app that presents you with random wikipedia articles in a feed you can swipe through. It's been nice because theres fewer jumpscare news articles and it's kind of soothing.

I learned about a kind of pottery called Fretwork because of this. It's a type of historical pottery where they put ground glass into the clay to create something visually quite similar to porcelain.

What are apps (Android, IOS, w/e) that you are using to manage stuff or entertain yourself in a healthy way?

In late 2023, while taking a break at a conference in Baltimore, I shared a New York Times chart, based on detailed census records, with a colleague from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The data showed a sharp rise, since 2020, in Americans reporting serious difficulty remembering, concentrating or making decisions, which are among the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Moments earlier, my colleague had presented a graph with a nearly identical curve – this one tracking the steep increase in adult stimulant prescriptions since 2020. By 2023, CDC data had confirmed that a record 7.8 per cent of American adults reported an ADHD diagnosis. Google searches for ‘ADHD’ surged, and TikTok videos tagged #ADHD had racked up more than 20 billion views. At the very most, we could be experiencing an adult ADHD epidemic in the United States. At the very least, ADHD was now suddenly very fashionable to the public. Yet, a third explanation is also possible – for better or worse, the ADHD diagnostic category might be becoming more inclusive.

In this video oliSUNvia goes deep into neurodivergence, the western ideas about mental health and the expectations and assumption this brings about people, their brains and how things should or should not be in society.

A very good watch!

Hey all, I have ADHD and insomnia! I've tried some things, but, I'm really hoping someone has advice on how to keep a schedule. I always end up slipping around until I have to do some kind of grueling "all-dayer" or something to put myself back on track.

Thoughts? Tricks? Wisdom? I'm all ears.

We have seen an inordinate amount of hate recently to 'non acceptable' neurodivergences here and other places on lemmy and would really like it if it be explicitly in the rules here that that isn't acceptable.

We are tired of seeing people target those with 'cluster b' personality 'disorders' and even those of us who are plural.

So making the rules explicit that that kind of ill informed hate (or just hate in general) to specific neurodivergences isn't acceptable would go a long way to quelling this absolutely disgusting and unacceptable wave of armchair psychologists, conspiracy theorists and other undesirables.

Thanks for reading.
