Ah! But Kabru isn't part of the main cast!

No, but he is the sole side-character who has a full world guide chapter equivalent to that of the five members of the main cast.

He has experience with a previous dungeon-economy town, and was taken in by one of the elves that dealt with the disaster caused by the expansion of the Utaya dungeon. It makes him a little more sympathetic, but I still don't like him as a person. It doesn't really feel like he's genuinely selfless, more like his past is a convenient excuse for him to act like he is.

The elves have arrived.

This episode opens on Shuros and Kabrus parties returning to the surface, and the events on the surface that follow. It seems representatives of the elven nation are here, consisting of the canaries. Military special forces, and experts on dungeons in particular.

Why are they here?

Meanwhile, Laios and his gang are invited deeper into the dungeon than anyone has been before.

Izutsumi's membership in Laios' party is off to a rocky start. The gang is running low on food again, and unlike our former main quartet, our new feline friend isn't taking well to the idea of eating monsters, and is taking it out on her new friends.

As the journey continues through the now frozen fifth level, the gang starts looking for the next monster of the week to cook up for dinner, while refusing to treat our new neko-buddy with anything but kindness.
