I've realized that lately, I've been watching a lot of them police bodycam videos on YouTube. It always makes me feel a little better about myself and some of the bad decisions I've made in life. I'm known to cave into bad impulses like bad spending and taking financial risks.

But, I at least do not turn my life upside down as many have had in these bodycam videos. We're talking, people who're too damn prideful and full of themselves that they turn a simple traffic stop into multiple felonies. As well as people just making a shitshow out of themselves when they're drunk and getting into struggles with the police.

So the next time you're feeling down, watch a few of these videos. Your life can't be any more worse than the self-destructive lives demonstrated in those videos.

I lay in the bathtub in the dark with the shower turned on. Its amazing

A, the old leaky submarine. Great for covering up sobs.

I did a similar thing. The light in the bathroom was off, but the light in the adjoining room was on. So, it's dim, but I can still see. I also had multicolor Christmas lights around my bedroom for a while. Laying in bed relaxing in the dim and colorful lights was my jam.

Damn that sounds magical. Pair it with some calming music bliss

Paranoid me would be terrified lol.

Weed.

Dad was a boozer so have yet to drink. Helps with enjoying monotony on weekends.

Use to watch /r/tooktoomuch and /r/crazyfuckingvideos for the reasons you're describing. Perspective and understanding that life could always be much worse helps tremdously.

[–] FlaminGoku@reddthat.com 5 points 2 years ago

Don't fall too much into monotony, though. I'm sure you have seen or heard South Park's take on it.

Keep on improving upon yourself.

I went through my phases with various drugs and now I'm glad the worst thing I do anymore is alcohol. But I understand your reasons for not drinking and I respect your willingness to abstain from it. I come from a family with a history of alcoholism myself, but unfortunately I succumbed to both it, and other things as well. Stay strong, bro.

sigh

Yeah...

Wow I see it completely differently. We're all just a step of being in a shit situation, including prison. As an ex-taxi driver who's been pointlessly harassed by cops many times, I keep wondering how far I was from just snapping one day. Actually I downright fantasise about it sometimes.

Guess it can work as a guilty pleasure... But I'll stick to playing stupid NDS games and such.

Mountain Monsters is amazing. Stick with it, it gets fucking nuts and very goofy. It makes me happy watching a bunch of rednecks wandering through West Virginia having fun while pretending to hunt cryptids.

Something else I do, which isn't really a guilty pleasure, but it is a kinda silly, is that I bring my dragon plushies downstairs every morning so they can listen to music with me while I eat breakfast. They're currently listening to King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation (aka, PetroDragonic Apocalypse)

Edit: Mojave and Nyx:

spoiler

They look so friendly! Probably great breakfast buddies. Where are they from?

[–] MossyFeathers@pawb.social 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Creep Cat Toy Company! They're kinda expensive but pretty high quality.

[–] SharkEatingBreakfast@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I have no issues paying higher prices for good-quality plushes. Thank you!

[–] MossyFeathers@pawb.social 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I dunno if you want any other suggestions, but I've heard Bark makes some really good plushies, however they're all handmade and very expensive. Plushlife deals in massive plushies (also expensive). If you want little gremlins, check out bossmonsta's protobeans. I'll warn you, you may find yourself quickly surrounded if you're not careful.

Edit: oh, there's also makeship. The quality isn't as high, though it's still pretty good. They're kinda like funkopops but higher effort and in plushie form (larger than funkopops too). Lots of internet pop-culture stuff like Marble Hornets, Gemini Home Entertainment, Old-school RuneScape, ncs_artist, etc, mostly from content creators, artists and smaller game studios. The catch is that they're limited drops as they're made to fulfill demand. I have a Gardener plush and the construction quality overall felt good, though I would have been willing to pay more if it meant that the legs had something like this in them.

Instant noodles. I fucking love instant noodles. I'm not really talking about Maruchan, because there are so many better ones for a similar price. I'm talking Shin Black, Indomie spicy mi goreng, Sapporo Ichiban Chow Mein, etc. There are so many good ones out there.

[–] Adulated_Aspersion@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Shin Green for our vegetarian friends. Still the bomb.

[–] beefbaby182@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Enjoy the music of Taylor Swift.

I love watching Cops, because, it makes me feel better about myself. No matter what dumb thing I do, I’ll never do anything as dumb as some of those people!

[–] beefbaby182@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Dude, COPS is great. Somehow there was always a shirtless white guy from my hometown doing some dumb shit in every single episode I've seen.

I don't feel guilty about the things I do to make myself happy or to make time spent more enjoyable. I know that's not really in the spirit of your question, but I think it's an important statement to make. Yes, I do understand the term "guilty pleasure", I just think it's a bad phrasing.

Some things that I do not feel guilty about:

  • Having a bong hit with my afternoon tea
  • Taking a break from work, socializing, or gaming to play some guitar
  • Whatever is happening on my second monitor.
    • Buffy while working? Yes.
    • Psych? Yes.
    • MUDding? 100% this mud all the time.
    • Cat pics on discord? Fuck. Yes.
  • Browsing pictures of Panko the dog.

Can't Pay? We will take it away! (Awful show, that is hard to stop watching)

Before youtube got super restrictive, I liked watching surgery videos on youtube... now they dont really exist, immediately 18+ or removed for community content guidelines.

[–] Moghul@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I try to not fall into the habit of doing something I shouldn't be to make myself feel better but I'll be damned if a cold beer and/or a snack don't improve my mood. I should be cutting back on eating 'cause I'm getting fat but work and life do gang up on me sometimes and it's hard to abstain.

[–] EricHill78@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago

I love watching first amendment audit videos. It's great seeing cops do the "walk or shame" when they were proved to be wrong.
