How much can you compress an image before people can't tell what it is?

Sawdust is more costly than Microplastics.

[–] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 9 points 8 months ago

You obviously didn't see this kids talent show presentation on microplastics in peanut buttercups

People forget that cutting food with sawdust was an actual problem once upon a time. It's one of the reasons the FDA exists.

Oh, they still do it, but they can't use as much and they have to put it on the label.

It is still made in strawberry flavored yogurts, this strawberry flavor is a sawdust distillate. That is, 100% sawdust can be used in food as a substitute ingredient. It can be labeled still as natural ingredient, because wood is. Just as the red dye, carmine, made from a species of insects, is labeled as natural. The small difference between strawberry flavored yogurt and strawberry yogurt. Bon apetit.

What codename do they use on the label? I imagine it doesn't just say "sawdust".... tree flour?

Cellulose Powder

I'm serious read the ingredients for kraft parmesan cheese

[–] PainInTheAES@lemmy.world 19 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

It's used in shredded cheese as well to prevent the cheese from sticking to itself. It's also why you don't really want to use shredded cheese in foods where the cheese needs to properly melt like grilled cheese sandwiches or pizza.

[–] GreyEyedGhost@lemmy.ca 2 points 8 months ago

Single best reason to buy parmesan flakes or chunks.

Also important to know if you have a wood/smoke allergy.

Cellulose is not wood. Just like a slice of bread is not a sandwich.

[–] my_hat_stinks@programming.dev 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)

That's kind of a strange argument. Cellulose isn't necessarily wood but wood is cellulose. Your sandwich is made with bread.

[–] lens17@feddit.de 1 points 8 months ago

Partly correct, wood is a mixture of cellulose, hemi-cellulose and lignin in varying amounts.

[–] BottleOfAlkahest@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

Cellulose powder is wood pulp. It doesn't really have nutritional value and is often used in the production of certain medicine types as well, but it is definitely wood.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago
