Blizzard is a shitty company where breast milk is stolen

This sounds like an absurdist meme, except ... true

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 9 points 8 months ago

True, but they get just like super jealous and toxic towards any potential competition in the 'milking it' department. No dairy farms in a 100km radius from their offices either.

The thing is, on paper, the game seems awesome: it's a lot grittier and darker than D3, combat and skills feel weighty, the character and armour design are cool too. However, there's just not a whole lot keeping you motivated long-term unless you're a fan of battlepasses as a form of carrot on a stick.

Enemies are way too tanky, you essentially do not feel your character getting stronger because the entire world scales with your level, the skill tree is not as deep as it seems on a surface level...

I could keep going with this. Point is, the amount of monthly recurring players speaks for itself.

[–] Fosheze@lemmy.world 17 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Exactly. The level scaling in particular is what killed it for me. What is the point of even having a level up mechanic if your character doesn't actually get any stronger. Part of the fun of D2 was getting a character to a point where you could just stomp previous areas.

[–] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 8 points 8 months ago

D3 even. Thinking of (Greater) Rifts, going back to previous, easier Rifts after decking your character out in gear was quite fun.

Plus the removal of previous seasons mechanics also makes eternal realm characters weaker than they were when you played them originally, so not really any point to play them again.

As a Diablo 1, 2 and 3 fan whose distaste towards Blizzard began to slowly grow after they let Activision crawl in through the gutter, I feel this in my soul about everything Blizzard related currently.

I was leaning away from them when they chose China sales over that tournament winner expressing support for the Hong Kong resistance. Then I walked away when the sexual harassment shit came out.

Everything since then has mostly been confirmation that they've lost touch entirely with what I used to love about them. The only "good" news I've heard about them is that Diablo 4 was briefly looking good until they released the first season and made it clear it was just another cash grab.

I miss the Blizzard that would ban waves of gold farmers and buyers. The Blizzard that hired two prominent StarCraft modders to work on the Warcraft 3 map editor. The Blizzard that didn't write a tos that says they own anything created with their map maker ("we own all content involved in our platform" should frankly be illegal, it should just be a license to publish that content is implied by uploading it to be published).

But, the sexual harassment stuff showed that even that Blizzard was toxic, though having grown up through that era, I can't say it surprised me. The only surprising part was how late it went on for.

The only good news I’ve heard about "them" is that former devs founded a new studio and are making Stormgate.

[–] Cheems@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

I loved 1/2 3 was only ok. I played for a couple of seasons and got bored.

[–] affiliate@lemmy.world 24 points 8 months ago (2 children)

me on my way to watch my fifth video essay on why star field is terrible. (it is cathartic to hear people complain about the game when i knew from the start it was doomed to fail.)

[–] SkyeStarfall@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 8 months ago

From the very release it seemed like it was gonna be a meh game. Not bad, not good, just perfectly ok, and with how many good games exist today, I never saw any point in playing it.

And, yeah, that's basically what the conclusion ended up being.

[–] DogWater@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

It's nice to have Gamepass on my PC for this reason. I find a ton of stuff I like and I get to try things like starfield and see how they suck and not feel bad about spending 60$ on it

[–] Fal@yiffit.net 22 points 8 months ago (1 children)

For a minute I thought this was an ecco the dolphin deep cut

[–] OttoVonNoob@lemmy.ca 12 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

A cause of PTSD maybe. I hope to never see that game again.

[–] moshtradamus666@lemmy.world 11 points 8 months ago

You are right, don't buy it. I regret it.

[–] Bobmighty@lemmy.world 11 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I got it for free and still felt disappointed and somehow ripped off.

[–] mac@infosec.pub 9 points 8 months ago

It took your time and your disk space.

[–] Toes@ani.social 10 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Why play Diablo 4 when Baldur's Gate 3 is so much better. Plus Diablo 3 has infinite content

[–] Daxtron2@startrek.website 29 points 8 months ago (1 children)

They're not even in the same genre.

[–] Lemongrab@lemmy.one 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] Iapar@feddit.de 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

They clearly aren't. Only a complete fool would say otherwise.

[–] Lemongrab@lemmy.one 1 points 8 months ago

Nuh uh, they are basically the same game.

[–] Odo@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

I've played that game!

[–] cccrontab@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago

Nice try Blizzard. Still a hard pass.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 9 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Grim Dawn indeed, but I have to say that Last Epoch was great during early access. I am afraid to play 1.0 just in case they nerfed my build to oblivion.

[–] HAL_9_TRILLION@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Hey I've spent... checks Steam... 120 hours on Grim Dawn, I'll complain about it as much as I want!

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Bruh I didn't know I was playing a looter RPG. Dropped it after like 40 hours.

[–] SkyeStarfall@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 8 months ago

Grim Dawn and Last Epoch are indeed good, but for me nothing beats Path of Exile. Whenever I play other ARPGs, I'm just missing stuff from PoE

[–] PapaStevesy@midwest.social 8 points 8 months ago

I've only heard complaints from my Diablo fan friends.

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 7 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Isn't there a free demo?

I liked the atmosphere in the beginning. Reminded me of Diablo 1. But beyond that there doesn't seem to be a lot of love.

[–] OttoVonNoob@lemmy.ca 10 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

I'm not sure but I loved Diablo 1 and 2, 3 felt like they completely lost their way... I've watched some streams and feel 4 is even more watered down..

[–] Sc00ter@lemm.ee 1 points 8 months ago

This games in a weird spot. There not enough to keep hard-core fans going, but players like me who will put in probably less than 200 hours a season, it's good. It's still my first season, I'm not level 100, and I'm having a blast leveling, taking on new bosses, and exploring. Works about to cut into my play time a lot more in the next couple of weeks, so I'm already thinking ahead to making a different character next season.

[–] lelgenio@lemmy.ml 4 points 8 months ago

You're totally right, it's not good. (I don't know anything about Diablo 4)

Can I sell you my digital deluxe copy? Half price???

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

It's fine. I liked it enough to feel like I got my money's worth for it.
