Why do people use Windows for these displays?

[–] DoYouNot@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (2 children)

What else could you possibly use? Mac? We all know mac is too expensive. Windows is the cheapest option. Nothing cheaper. Yessir. They're not fancy -they just need a simple Windows license and some up-to-date, current gen hardware to run that display...

e: (/s, because even the most obvious sarcasm seems to need a label)

A custom made Linux distro that starts a x server with a single program open would probably do it

Afaik there are already kiosk display Linux distros.

i don't even think it would have to be custom made, just install arch or something similar

Oh golly. That sounds like the devil's work. (/s)

Looks like people are downvoting you because they don’t understand sarcasm. This is why the whole /s thing started on Reddit.

I hate the /s and could not have made it clearer otherwise... 🤷 At least you got it.

I think it's complaining that the setup isn't found, maybe trying to update or repair?
