'Cartelnet'

Honestly, after my last go round with Xfinity customer service I'd switch to the cocainternet in a heartbeat. At least they're up front about their criminal nature and contempt for your life.

I bet they'd let me configure port forwarding. Looking at you tmobile

[–] daq@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 10 months ago

CGNAT is your enemy more than tmo, but hardware they provide is shit.

[–] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 62 points 10 months ago

duuuuude

dont give spectrum any ideas

[–] Nobody@lemmy.world 35 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The cartels are starting to figure out how the white collar criminals make their money. Look out.

Also, if your Viagras cartel signal has full bars for four hours, call your doctor.

It'll be somewhat strange when they get to the point where they're just legitimate businesses price-gouging their customers. It's happening with avocados as well as other monopolies in various places. It's only a matter of time before they're just on the stock market.

Legitimate business + explicit and credible death threats

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

So corporations?

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 30 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Still better than Canadian prices

[–] girlfreddy@lemmy.ca 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The CRTC can just fuck right off.

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 11 points 10 months ago

You mean the Canadian Radio Telecommunications Cartel?

[–] TheMightyCanuck@sh.itjust.works 7 points 10 months ago

Use our Wi-Fi while getting high

[–] chitak166@lemmy.world 17 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I guess the cartels will enrich themselves until they can control people without violence.

They'll own all the businesses and just control people with money.

[–] WraithGear@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Sir we call that a government.

[–] mx_smith@lemmy.world 16 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I bet they have setup a proxy to capture all the traffic so they can capture all the logins and have access to their bank accounts.

[–] Rednax@lemmy.world 19 points 10 months ago (1 children)

That does not work without forcing the users to also use the proxy. Any website that uses https instead of http does not leak passwords, unless the device/browser of the user is compromised.

It sounds like a mechanism to make the town dependend on the cartel for internet, and then demand extortion prices for the internet.

[–] mx_smith@lemmy.world -2 points 10 months ago (2 children)

They could easily do a man in the middle attack, but I doubt they would have the need to rob the poor people of their town.

[–] Rednax@lemmy.world 19 points 10 months ago

Https is explicitly designed against man-in-the-middle attacks. Modern browsers make a bigggg fuss if a man-in-the-middle is attempting some shit. Those attacks do not work.

And if you do manage to make it work, it sure wouldn't be easier than pointing a gun at someone and telling them to pay up for their internet connection.

[–] ArtVandelay@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Not without a client side certificate

[–] nixcamic@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

You can ... If people aren't tech savvy you can just serve everyone plain http and most people will ignore the warnings.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

More likely they just wanted the subscription money.

[–] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 13 points 10 months ago

Do they also threaten to kill anyone that chuckles when they say their name?

If so, I wouldn’t even make it to my first payment.

[–] Kalkaline@leminal.space 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

$20-30/month isn't bad depending on the speeds, just saying.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 5 points 10 months ago

I skimmed the article and I don’t think it mentioned the performance

[–] LemmyBe@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Why even offer the WiFi? They could just threaten to kill them if they don’t give them money each month.

[–] mightyfoolish@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

The WiFi business has a much higher chance to go legitimate... I guess?

[–] XTornado@lemmy.ml 3 points 10 months ago

Plomo o WiFi.

[–] Zoidberg@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Community WiFi. That's a way to increase adoption I guess.
