BleepingComputer couldn't independently confirm the claims made by the Ukrainian government, but if true, this would be a significant blow to the Kremlin regime.

Very significant. Is there any verification that they've actually done it? Haven't seen it picked up by any major news outlets.

The most lucrative hack is one you keep to yourself.

In this instance, the publicity is an effort to do more damage.

Ukraine wants the Russian people to know that their tax records are wiped out. Hopefully many of them will skip paying or underpay. This will cut into the governments incoming revenue for many months or even years.

Could they not have transferred money out of Russia? Sure destroying the taxation system is great, but what about money for the war?

Probably not. Even if they could move some credit, that's all digital and can be removed. Like if you get scammed and report it to your bank, they can cancel that payment.

Nice for them, but I can't see how this will have a real impact. The attack maybe harmful in short term, but there's no way this will affect Russia as a whole.

Especially now when they made it official. That also means that there's nothing more to be done most likely.

They showed they could. That's it.

Fuck Russia btw.

It's about morale. On both sides.
