Freezing to death while drinking porridge?

[–] DahGangalang@infosec.pub 57 points 11 months ago (1 children)

No, Freezing to death while drinking porridge together

[–] sirxdaemon@lemmy.ca 12 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

While they left Eeyore to freeze to death alone. Who's the real ass here?

[–] LostWon@lemmy.ca 7 points 11 months ago

Poor Eeyore in his burro, no doubt muling and complaining.

[–] DahGangalang@infosec.pub 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Eh, better to celebrate those who could keep up than to fret over those who couldn't.

[–] Rodeo@lemmy.ca 3 points 11 months ago

That's a great way to justify not putting in a wheelchair ramp

[–] guitarsarereal@sh.itjust.works 5 points 11 months ago

Drinking porridge out of cups? That's sick.

[–] Dimok@reddthat.com 31 points 11 months ago

It's bad everywhere, but what's scariest to me is the stories my girlfriend tells me about the hospitals she works in. She is a traveling radiographer and gets to visit some of the sketchier hospitals across the country. There seems to be a running theme of "we don't have enough people" and a few bootlickers enabling it with working 90+ hour weeks. Every time you see in the news where a nurse accidentally screws something up, there is a running trail of them being over worked and short staffed. They pay my gf 3-5 times what they pay their xray tech staff, AND pay her room and board, AND a huge percentage on top of that to the contract house. The ineptitude of your run of the mill hospital administration is just..scary.

Don't normalize the grind. Rather normalize the unwind.

[–] sirxdaemon@lemmy.ca 12 points 11 months ago

Pooh and gang enjoying the better grind, the coffee kind.

[–] ExfilBravo@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago

R.I.P. Piglet. They just let my boy freeze out there.

Normalize an 8 hour working day

[–] TheDarksteel94@sopuli.xyz 9 points 11 months ago

Sounds pretty normal to me. At least for developed countries.

[–] PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca 8 points 11 months ago

[–] pancakes@sh.itjust.works 7 points 11 months ago

Don't feed yourself into the grind, feed coffee beans into the grind and share with the homies.

[–] threeduck@aussie.zone 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Un-normalise the word normalise.

[–] eldain@feddit.nl 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Inviting friends over for tea is great, can recommend.

[–] RustyShackleford 8 points 11 months ago

I do it myself each weekend, makes for a great start to the morning.

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 4 points 11 months ago

Normalise Pooh having a rough day? Sounds like grind to me!

I don’t understand this trend of wanting to be more vulnerable. Through technology you can achieve anything, anything, you want. What you do with that tool is up to you, I know of several markets that have opened up specifically over the last 5 years max that provide work for yourself opportunities. Free education and literature. Everything is out there but we need to arm the children and the adult with this knowledge in advance so they can make full use of its true power.

We have arguably the largest libraries ever created in digital worlds, proxies away from oppressive regimes through game servers which host things like banned books and whistle blower docs.

Whatever it is you choose to do about this world, don’t choose to buckle. And for those of us that are strong enough and privileged enough, it’s our duty to educate and help our neighbors who may need help. It’s a big responsibility and communication isn’t always an innate skill, it takes hard work - but it’s worth doing to me.

[–] Sotuanduso@lemm.ee 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Okay... but what does that have to do with grind vs friends?

[–] stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

When did I say they were mutually exclusive? I specifically called out being a good neighbor.

Friends are important. The subcontext of this meme is that they’re all hungry and just are bundled up in one spot, the meme reads essentially “fuck the grind just hole up with friends”. I’m pushing back on that push and trying to inspire drive, interest, and prosperity.

Of course friends are important.

[–] Sotuanduso@lemm.ee 3 points 11 months ago

Ah, I see, that makes sense. I just thought it was a total non sequitur.

I guess I've gotten too used to Twitter where some accounts post total non sequitur motivational quote tweets under trending funny animal videos.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 11 months ago

That looks like being poo-r with no honeys. Guess I'll have to bounce and keep on the grind.

[–] craftyindividual@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

Grind/hustle... that's technically known as the Grustle.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

I wonder how many times I'll see this getting reposted... Do you guys have a folder and you just go through it like a playlist on repeat?

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world -2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

My old ass is struggling trying to understand all this.

Capitalism has gone off the rails and is grinding us down, especially the most vulnerable. I get that. Seen shit IRL over the decades that astounds me. If you're young, it's hard to truly grasp how much has been stolen from you. And you should be mad as fucking hell.

OTOH, I don't understand how young people expect to gain anything. The world runs on money, always has, always will, no matter the government or financial system. The world won't give you money for merely existing, you have to provide value back to the world. That means skills, education and experience. Things you don't have when you start out in life, things you have to "grind" for. TANSTAAFL.

It's also hard to grasp the opportunities and freedom you've been handed. Worldwide conversations like this were not possible when I was in my 20's. A computer, with no internet or interoperability, was beyond the scope of most families. Education of any sort is basically free.

Again, no one needs to explain the plight of the youth to me. You're either old enough to understand, young enough to understand, or you're out of touch.

[–] KepBen@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Which part confuses you specifically? I can't understand your complaint here. "No kids need to focus everything on money because simply enjoying life won't change the world (nothing ever will)"??
