I mean, is that not par for the course for superpowers, historically? The US just has a wider area that it can reach in that regard, due to better technology of the current era

A carrier group for you... and one for you... and you... and you...

[–] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But you, you get a frigate, cause fuck you

[–] greyhaven7@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not sure "getting" a carrier group would be seen as a plus. Usually means you fucked around (or we think you did), and we would like to remind you that finding out is an option.

[–] anton@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 year ago

Could also mean your neighbor fucked around in a way that is a problem for you.

Can I just have a missile cruiser, sir?

Small countries still need supermarkets to buy weapons from to fight each other. It's an inevitability that sides get chosen because selling weapons to both sides looks particularly bad.

I don't think OP grasps the concept of having allies, to be honest.

[–] stebo02@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 year ago (3 children)

are Israel our allies and if so why are we allied to facism

[–] optissima@possumpat.io 12 points 1 year ago

Because America is also fascist

[–] akariii@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 year ago

what many people dont understand is that foreign policy isn't about morals, it's about power. capitalism too isn't about capital, its about power. that's why the capitalist class' interests often aligns with interests of fascists. when money stops securing power, the capitalists will try to maintain it by any means necessary

Based on South Vietnam, Korea, Francoist Spain, and every South American dictator willing to kill commies for trying to end slavery in their countries?

Tradition.

But, hey, at least we got S Korea kinda right. Eventually. After couping them too.

Lemmy just loves to use the word socialism even when it doesn’t really fit.

My duvet cover is socialism.

Your? You mean ours

[–] RIP_Cheems@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't think you understand how war driven America is. There is a 2020 article that recorded data to show that over 244 years, only 15 of those years were spent not being in a war.

This message brought to you by Raytheon.

I have weapons if you have coin

[–] GasMaskedLunatic@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's not the Americans that want the war. It's the American politicians that know they can't get re-elected without it.

I was more suggesting that America inserts itself into other countries conflicts sometimes with benevolent intentions, other times not so much.

Either way America never seems to see a war it doesn’t like.

[–] PsychedSy@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 year ago

It's kind of how the DoD defense plan works. Bases all over every continent so that the US can fight Russia and China from someone else's yard. It also incidentally protects those other countries.

[–] OurToothbrush@lemmy.ml -3 points 1 year ago

The US never has benevolent intentions when it comes to war.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

You have to find a way to finance the restocking of the ammunition depots.

[–] SARGEx117@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Are we talking a world war, or just a war somewhere in the world?

Because one of those things we won't have a choice over. I can not want a war while still preparing for one.

I don't believe the US would be left alone in a world War, simple from all the shit we stuck our noses in in the 50s-90s, to say nothing of the last 23 years.

[–] trailing9@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Nobody will attack the US first if the US does nothing.

[–] patomaloqueiro@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

And for oil and other natural resources too

[–] DragonTypeWyvern 1 points 1 year ago

You will give us weapons to defend ourselves, right?- some warring state

HAÀÀAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaAaaaaaaaaaaaa

No. You're going to pay if it takes you eighty years.- America.
