Just reading how it works seems like an over complication of something as simple as a bike trailer. And for $2200 with a max payload weight of only 110lbs?

Yeah, some can be had for half the price of that trailer - the Fiido T2 is $1200 on prime sale right now.
Now attach it to the trailer instead of your bike and enjoy the squirreliest ride of your life!
Seriously though, you left out the battery. I'd also recommend Bafang as kits go.

How about a cargo bike that can extend and shorten?
It's an interesting idea, but it also sounds like it would pose a lot of engineering challenges.
I'd still rather have a Burley Travoy.
