I always assumed it stopped along the way to pick up more students and you didn't have to get on in London. I mean it's a train, right? 😅

Yeah, was my assumption too. Although I might bring my kids to London for the first year, just so they can have that shared experience

"Hi Neighbor, remember that hike we took from Hogsmead to Hogwarts our 1st year! The sky was beautiful, you could see every star, the dancing flowers, we saw the outline of a centaur near the forest, we saw the living blue muggle machine fly past us, and when Billy tripped in a puddle, it started glowing a beautiful lady appeared and took Billy away never to be seen again? What an fantastic hike that was. Oh right, sorry mate I forgot, your mum made you take that stupid train.

Where did it say in the books or films that students at Hogwarts were mandated to travel by train into the school?

Take the floo network or a port key to London, takes only like five seconds. And then you get to spend a few hours with your friends who you might not have seen for a few months. You catch up with each other and eat some candy before school starts again. I don't see the problem, unless you don't have friends.
