Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

These guys give me the creeps. I've canceled my Spotify account - I'd rather not support a platform that promotes this kind of garbage (de-googling and de-FBing, too). Don't worry, I'm not telling you what to do - just sharing what I've done. πŸ˜‰

Disinformation: purposeful

Misinformation: not purposeful

Ngl if they can prove Joe knew he was spreading lies, that can actually be interesting

Joe knows he's spreading lies. He doesn't care

Don't mind if I... * yoink *

Wow no way! Are you telling me that the guy who hosted Fear Factor isn't a scientific expert? Next you'll be telling me that he isn't an expert on politics or sociology either. And I'm not sure that I believe it. I mean, just look at how swole and manly he is. How could you not trust this guy with everything from voting advice to issues that should be left to scientists?

I read this comment as Judy Gemstone

We needed research for this?!

Russel brand is just the worst, now he’s playing the β€œim saved, Jesus al the way, I can’t be responsible for the shit I did in the past cause I’m a different guy now!”. He’s such a disease, the least he can do is admit what he did and apologize, instead he keeps doubling and tripling down on his bullshit

https://www.knowrogan.com/

They analyze Joe Rogan and his guests.

https://knowledgefight.com/

They analyze Alex Jones and his guests.

Has Knowledge Fight caught up to the present yet? After the inauguration, they intentionally started delayed coverage of Alex's show, so I decided to stop listening until they catch up. I love Knowledge Fight, but the primary reason I was listening was to keep up with right wing talking points, and it's not as useful when they're a month behind current events.

They seem to be catching up to current day. The last posts were a few days behind but I don't know what their schedule is. So who knows if they stay current.

They're all terrible and in climate denial. Fund individual research. Especially the Oceanic and Atmospheric Research that is being destroyed. There are things we can do

Joe Rogan, and people like him, need to be shunned from society.

It’s OK to remove people from your life that preach/support batshit crazy ideas.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Anyone know what "young Jamie" is thinking about working for Rogan? Probably doesn't mind being allied with his fuck because of the money, but when I did listen to Rogan. He seemed sane maybe?

[–] CaptnNMorgan@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

It seems like he tries to correct Joe when he can, but Joe often disregards it or gets mad at him. Every once in a while, Joe will concede his point, but its rare and its never about something that's important enough to move any needles

[–] TwoBeeSan@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

He's been in that room huffing the same farts for years.

Listened waaay back too like sub 1k little beyond.

I can only recall him speaking a handful of times in that time. Unsure if that changed as time went on.
