Hello! I'm new to lemmy, and to posting online at all really (lifelong lurker).
Late 30's mtf, just started HRT at the beginning of the month, and I think it has already helped me a lot mentally. I've only realized I'm trans earlier this year. I'm not out and don't have any plans to be for the time being. It feels very risky here in the southern US.
I'm happy you're able to start the journey! If you're comfortable, I'd love to hear about your updates in this community.
Sorry you're feeling unsafe in the south. I understand what that's like. The US is just such a mess these days.
Thanks for the encouragement! I am hoping to open up more in online spaces, because trans specific irl support groups are kind of far for me to frequent.
Where I'm at, in the suburbs of a medium sized city, doesn't seem bad on like a personal safety level, I imagine people might even be very polite to my face. I'm mostly worried about future legislation, and discrimination. Of course that's a nationwide problem now, the south is just enthusiastically leading the charge.
One day when I have the means, if progressive cities still exist, I will move to one, and just be a new woman overnight! But if before then, it gets to a point where I'm not passing as a man anymore, it wouldn't be the end of the world. :)

Thanks for making this post to begin with. I’m just exploring Lemmy as part of my complete overhaul with technology. Definitely feeling like when I used to stumble on communities and forums for niche content and then start getting to know people through forum posts.
I am in the mindset right now that I need to be part of creating the content I would want to be seeing. It’s a wasteland otherwise if we don’t make engagement, together.
Oh also 35, married (wlw), have kids and cats, Canadian and been on HRT for nearly 1 year, out and socially transitioned before then because I had to wait over a year to get HRT access and still looking at all the wrong gender was not an option after I accepted I was trans.
33 here and started HRT about two and a half years ago.

HRT isn’t not a magic cure-all but it does feel magical at times, results come pretty slowly at our age, and get started whenever you want to because you can get at least a couple of months of the emotional and mental effects before any permanent physical effects happen (and a month or three is plenty of time to decide to turn back if you don’t like the emotional and mental effects).

if you want your genitals to atrophy less and keep their function, you’ll need to get and maintain maintenance erections for 10-15 minute at a time, a few times a week – I didn’t do as much maintenance masturbation as I wish I had due to lack of libido, and I regret it sometimes, although I’ve found ways to work around it
oh, and as transfems, especially at our age, there’s absolutely no shame in asking your doctor for erectile dysfunction meds! sildenafil gave me a headache, so now I’m on a low daily dose of tadalafil – and keep in mind that too high a daily dose of the latter can give you weird muscle cramps (found that out the hard way).
40 and 1 month into HRT here. We do exist! Even though every single day I wish I had my own EMH to just magically put me into the right body via the magic of Starfleet Medical :/

Mid 40s and slowly transitioning in the UK.
There are people here but it’s definitely a lot quieter than Reddit. Over here you have to prod a bit. Make your own posts for any questions you have and people tend to come scurrying out from the shadows. 😁
I am actively prodding ;) I don't want to spam the community, but I might post here and there until it gains traction on its own.
